Memorial Day Origins: From Decoration Day to today

Memorial Day, initially called Decoration Day, honors U.S. military members who died in service. General John A. Logan designated May 30, 1868, for remembrance and decoration of soldiers' graves. Waterloo, New York is recognized as the holiday's birthplace, but evidence suggests the first Memorial Day occurred in Charleston, South Carolina on May 1, 1865. After WWI, Memorial Day expanded to honor all American war soldiers. President Nixon later established its observance on the last Monday of May, and in 2000, Congress passed the National Moment of Remembrance Act.

Fortunately, I remembered my "car knitting" project, making progress on my Dolly Dearest project. A win-win situation!
