After a slower craft year than is usual for me, things are ramping up. G.kids#2 & #3 are having their party this weekend. The projects that I have been making for them need to be completed by Sunday @ 1pm. I had a request from my sister for 2 more Christmas stockings for her grand-babies. Although they will be a few days late, they will make her a great birthday gift. :0) I have some great ideas for Daughter-In-Law’s birthday coming up at the end of September. I also purchased 2 colors of green yarn to make the fingerless gloves for G.kid#1’s gloves for his Holloween costume. The yarn that I have been spinning… I have an idea for that too. Let’s get on to the actual update.
Birthday Ties
Two of the three planned ties are finished. They were made from acrylic from my stash. While I prefer natural fibers, I am also a realist. These ties are for G.kid#2. If these ties are to get used, they need to have the durability and wash-ability of acrylic. For this birthday, I have run out of time to make the third planned tie. There is always Christmas!
Birthday Rompers
Besides the buttons and buttonholes these additional reversible rompers are complete, just in time for another weekend heatwave.
I have a stack of bloomers to finish and the matching dolly rompers to knock out before Saturday. No worries… I got this!
Birthday Christmas Stockings
It has been several years since I have made Christmas stockings for my sister’s grandkids. She likes the non-traditional variegated colors. None of stockings repeat a colorway. I did have to message her because I couldn’t remember if the fold-over cuff was the same color as the body of the stocking or a contrasting color. The answer – the same color.
I went to my notebook of completed projects and pulled the same pattern that I used last time.
This time I also had the cool design-book that my friend Daisy made for me as a gift. With one of the knitting graph pages, I mapped out both of the letters that I will eventually add to the stockings.
Holloween Gloves
I DO NOT NEED ANY MORE REUSABLE SHOPPING BAGS!!
In going to Joann’s to get yarn for the Christmas stockings and yarn for the gloves for G.kid#1’s Halloween costume, I couldn’t resist this bag. This bag is going to keep making me smile all year long! Let’s look inside…
There is the pink and white yarn that is slated for the birthday Christmas stockings. The light and dark green are for the finger-less gloves. seams.
Back in 2016 I had made little “gloves” from green felt and a small length of ribbing. They weren’t actual working gloves. The finger channels were made by sewing seams with enough width between them to allow fingers to slip in.
Now it is 8 years later and there is no way that I will be able to pass that off as an acceptable solution to a much more mature G.son!
This will also give me a chance to practice on a knitted fingerless glove pattern before starting on this year’s Christmas plans.
You may be wondering, why the repeat of a costume theme? As ‘littles’ the costume was the idea of his parents. It was a great idea too! G.son#1 went as “Ash Ketchum” & G.son#2 went as “Picacho”. This year they are both super interested in Pokemon cards and Pokemon Go.
Produce Bags
These produce bags are proceeding maddeningly slow. I’m sure it has everything to do with all the other projects that I have been working on. Nearly 3 inches of progress is still progress!
Spinning ~ Dragon’s Breath
This is the first bobbin of my 2 ply yarn from the Targee fiber in the Dragon’s breath colorway. It is deceptive in this picture, looking mostly black. That is just how this layer looks. I assure you that there is plenty of variation throughout. I am considering knitting real wool mittens for the grand-kids’ Christmas gifts. Sure they might get lost, but they will be warm while they have them. Gloves knit from acrylic are just not enough to keep little hands warm.
Spinning doesn’t always go as planned. Especially when there are ill-behaved robot vacuums that pirate yarn right off the bobbin on the spinning wheel. Trust me, I don’t need any help slowing my progress down.
