Dolly Dearest
This project gets pushed to the back burner very often, as evidenced by having been working on it since Janurary 11, 2019. That doesn’t mean that I find the Dolly Dearest project as onerous. I do enjoy working on Dolly’s ensemble and I am very much looking forward to seeing it all come together.
In the update of April 11, 2024, I had frogged this back to it’s beginning because I been away for too long, left myself no notes (bad past self!), and had lost my place. Fast forward to now-ish and I have caught up and surpassed my previous progress.
The eyelet row is right at the 10″ mark! :0) The next instruction is to “continue on in straight stitch until the same length as the front”. That is easy enough. Now, I just need to find where I put the front…

Quilt Borders
The borders are finished (WHOOP-WHOOP)! This doesn’t mean that the quilt is ready to be put on the bed quite yet. Remember back when I started the renewal of this quilt? I had taken off the worn binding then decided to add borders to make the quilt larger. That was not the only renewal that this quilt needed.
There are many places where some of the fabric on the pieced blocks has worn through. This is where I stop and thank my past-self for saving fabric that was left over from the original project. For many of the fabrics used in making this quilt, I have left over fabric that I can use to cover up the frayed pieces. I have started my journey in appliqueing new fabric over old. I am loving how it is turning out.

Mermaids
My first little mermaid is nearly complete. She is sooooo cute! There are a few facial details that need to be finished (eyelashes, cheeks). I also need to figure out how to keep her big o’l head from flopping backwards when she is held up.
This little cutey was made specifically for the granddaughter of my friend, LB. My granddaughter LOVES this little mermaid! One day when she came over, she took up this little mermaid, failed around the little arms and began to tell me the story of the mermaids.
“Mermaids live in ocean. Mermaids like to swim in water. Mermaids swim with their arms” ~ A
She went on to ask if the mermaid was for her. When I told her it was for Sailor (they video chat with each other), A asked me to make her one. When I agreed to make her one, she turned her big eyes to me and said “OK”. And then she settled down to wait…
I am not a fast crocheter. That is an understatement. I had to distract her with a barbie. But this was the kick-in-the-butt that I needed to get hot and get it done. Hopefully next week will show you a couple of completely finished mermaids!
Until next time <3
