WIPs vs. UFOs

So, in my mind there is actually a difference between the two. A WIP (work in progress) is something that I am currently or have been recently (and intend to go back to shortly) been working on.

A UFO is something that I haven’t worked on in a LONG time or have set aside for one reason or another. Usually I need to take a break from it due to frustration.

As I am cleaning the sewing crafting room more deeply, I am finding many projects that haven’t been completed for one reason or another.

Recently I mentioned the Flower quilt. as having moved from the UFO pile to the WIP pile.  Well… they aren’t really piles, but you know what I am trying to say.  Today I took a quick turn around the craft room to see how many UFOs/WIPs I could spy right away.  Here is a peek:

I also plan to add a pocket, because women need pockets too.  The black dress, a UFO, is a vintage dress that has a tear in the fabric on the lower part of the skirt.

I’m not sure what my plan is to fix that tear, but the fabric is so cool, I didn’t want to give up on it.

The back of the door looks like this:

The flower quilt is on the top left, a recent return to the world of WIPs.  All total there are blocks for 6 different quilts hanging there.  I decided not to go too much into what the other quilts are supposed to be right now.  I want to avoid tumbling into UFO despair at all the things that still need to be finished.

There is some good new though.  I have more flower blocks done than I thought I did:

September is still in progress.  I also noticed that October doesn’t have any “filled in” elements.  I have been filling in some part of each design with satin stitches.  I must have missed that in October.

I have a huge love of the 1930-1940 newspaper quilts.  They were serial quilt blocks that were published in the papers on a weekly basis.  I have started the Ruby McKim Flower basket quilt: (it is currently in the UFO category, but I really want to move it to the WIP one.  I need to finish something (anything) else before I recommit to this one)

There are the Dr. Who kitchen towels: (WIP)

I was sure that I have done another Weeping Angel, but I can’t seem to locate it.  I either put it somewhere for super-safe-keeping or I imagined that I had done two. I could totally see why I would have wanted to have already done two, they take a long time to embroider.

Stack of quilt tops: (UFOs all)

There are 6 quilt tops in the pile and one hiding out across the room.  I know there are more, but I am unsure where I have stashed them and didn’t have the strength to go looking for them right now.

Definitely a WIP, I am nearly done with my new cotton summer dress. Also known as The Lemon Dress.

I really didn’t have to dig for any of these projects. They are just out in the open, taunting me.  What I am trying to say is that there are probably more, many more.  When I cross their paths, I will tell you all about them.

In the meantime, it is July.  Time to start thinking about projects for Christmas…
