We are getting close to the finish of Florence La Ganke’s – Nancy Page Quilt #2.
The club enjoyed the animals which make up the two additional pairs of creatures entering the ark. The ducks were of white and light grey felt with bright yellow bills and webbed feet.
The pigs were hefty porkers in dull brown and white. Their tails were worked in outline stitch after the top pig was stitched in place.
Nancy told the members to cut out the sheet as given in today’s installment and paste it onto light weight tag board or card board. Then it was dried under pressure.
When well dried the animals were cut along the outlines. Using these as patterns the pieces of felt were cut.
The gray felt duck was pinned in place first. In putting this on, the members used the small insert as a guide. When it was properly placed the duck was stitched in place. Then a piece of yellow was put on for feet and bill. It was easier, the club found, to applique or lay this on top of the original pattern, than it was to use it as a part of the original duck.
The second duck was laid in place so that the profile of under duck and the line of puffed out breast was visible. When the top one was laid on satisfactorily the duck was basted and then stitched in place. Then the yellow bill and feet were added and the eye was embroidered in solid stitchery. In making the pigs the small hole for nostril was cut out. In this pair the lighter pig is stitched in place first and the darker one put on top of the light one, leaving the profile and back of lower shoeing as illustrated in small insert pattern.
The eye is embroidered as well as the curly tail. This pattern may be worked in yarns using the long and short stitch as indicated in the earlier installments of the wall hanging.
